As Groups, Conference & Events Planner at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station, you and your colleagues are responsible for selling and organizing events in the hotel. This mainly concerns hotel room stays for groups, meetings, conferences, drinks and dinners.

As soon as an event request comes in, you handle it. You contact the customer to discuss their wishes, and then you see what you can best offer them. This is very much a commercial position: you sell the product and services of DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station the best you can and give tours to (potential) customers. When an event is confirmed, you communicate with all responsible departments to ensure it becomes a success. Afterward, you check with the customer how they experienced the event and are responsible for the financial settlement.

You work in the Groups, Conference & Events team, which is part of the commercial department of the hotel. There currently are five Executives in the team, as well as a Groups, Conference & Events Manager and some trainees.

If you enjoy daily contact with (potential) customers of the hotel, you find a commercial position challenging and you enjoy interacting with various departments to bring events to a successful conclusion, then this is the job for you.

Working week

Groups, Conference & Events Planner
Marielouise di Leva

You are busy with the planning of different events on a daily base. A large company wants to organize a drink and a private person indicates that she would like to celebrate her birthday in Amsterdam. Two completely different events, and this makes the work so much fun.

During an administrative day I spend a relatively long time on the financial settlement of events. This gives me less time for my other work, but I make sure to pick up on it another day.

Firsthand experience

You receive a dinner request from one of your bookings , but unfortunately there is no availability anymore. How do you go about this?

DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station is a very well-known and popular hotel, thus there are many events and hotel guests on a daily basis in the hotel. If an event cannot take place, you will of course think along with the booker and look for an alternative. This might mean moving the date, moving timings or setup. Another solution would be to check with another Hilton hotel or to another location in the city with which DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station has a partnership.
