Vacancy

As a Bartender at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station you are responsible for running the bar and restaurant of the hotel located on the ground floor. This means that you take and settle guest orders, make the drinks and also serve them. In the meantime, you make sure the bar is clean, tidy and stocked. The focus lies on making cocktails, taking into account the wishes of guests. For example, if you do not have a certain liqueur and guests want a cocktail with a specific taste or flavor, you improvise. When it is a bit quieter, you take care of the mise en place. You cut the fruit, top up all the syrups and squeeze some juices.

It is also important that you keep a good record of which new bottles of spirits you might need during your shift, based on what is ordered. You then pass this information on to the Supervisor. You clean the bar at the end of each shift and restock what is empty, for example soft drinks or sliced fruit. You will work behind the bar in the Lobby Bar and your working hours may vary between noon and 1 AM, with the most common shift being between 3 PM and midnight.

If you enjoy sharing your knowledge and expertise about drinks to guests, and you see a challenge in processing various different cocktail orders at the same time, then this is the job for you.

Working week

Bartender / Supervisor
Andrea Lanciotti

On a nice day it is very busy because of the nice weather; I enjoy this very much. The terrace is open and full, so there is plenty to do and there is a great atmosphere.

On a day when everything is not running that smoothly, you have to disappoint guests several times, since you don't have a certain type of drink in stock. Then you have to be creative and serve other cocktails.

Firsthand experience

A guest indicates that he does not like the cocktail. What do you do?

It is important that you always remain friendly and understanding towards the guest. You ask what it is the guest does not like and what he would like to taste. Then you make a new cocktail for the guest, because good service is always paramount and you have to keep the guest happy. During your first two working weeks, you will be intensively trained and supervised in making cocktails, tapping beer, running the bar in general and all other activities. You will learn which flavors go together and how to make the best cocktails, so that you can confidently speak to your guests.

Growth

Various training courses are offered by the hotel. This can vary from social hygiene and food safety trainings, to a wine course or a first aid course. Whatever may pique your interest, may just very well be in the books for you.
