Ethical Hacker

On nice days, you find a unique vulnerability that others had not yet come across, and you ensure that the product involved is secured.

On less pleasant days, I am less productive. As a result, I can get less work done during penetration tests.

Firsthand experience

During a penetration test, you find a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability which allows hackers to inject malicious codes (JavaScript) into the browser or vulnerable web application. By doing so, hackers could see passwords, for example. What to do?

Together with a co-worker, you investigate what could have caused the Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability. You search the web application’s codes. Once you’ve found the erroneous code, you make screenshots of the code that hackers can use to infiltrate the web application.

As the vulnerability can cause high to critical risks, you contact the customer immediately. You inquire about the critical vulnerability that has been found and inform the customer of it, so they can promptly come up with an appropriate solution.

Subsequently, you report these findings. You describe the impact and risks of the vulnerability comprehensively. Furthermore, you present the customer with a proposal on how to best solve this. Finally, you visit the customer or schedule a call with them to discuss the report.

Growth

Within the REDteam, you will get professional and personal development opportunities as well as a very ample personal training budget. In addition, you will have access to ethical hacking resources, including software (such as BurpSuite Pro, Nessus, and IDA Pro) and hardware (such as oscilloscope, logic analyzer, soldering iron, desoldering station, and high-end SDR hardware). At KPN you work with some of the best Ethical Hackers in the world.
