What is required?
- Bachelors or Masters degree, e.g. Economics, Business Administration or related studies
- An understanding in corporate banking (syndicated bilateral financing), project, leveraged and structured finance
- Ability to read and analyse legal documentation from a control viewpoint
- Excellent command of the Japanese and English language, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to liaise with other departments and establish good relationships
- Propensity for critical thinking with the ability to make crucial time pressured decisions
- Strong problem solving, communication and organizational skills

Vacancy
As an Associate (Business Support Team) at Mizuho, your main role is to be an initial point of contact for the bank's clients. You will support the client on-boarding process, in collaboration with Relationship Managers and the KYC/AML team. This involves handling the administration tasks such as collecting and registering basic client information, as well as assisting with regular account maintenance tasks such as updating company details. Proficiency in both Japanese writing and speaking is a prerequisite, as you will predominantly interact with Japanese-speaking clients.
Your role extends beyond on-boarding, as you will be expected to respond to client's ad-hoc requests and support internal colleagues with regulatory requirements from DNB. You will also manage various tasks including risk part daily checking, fee booking, fee payment, credit rating, collateral deposit, sector review, and monitoring financial covenants among other duties. Keeping client-related information up to date in compliance with DNB and Head Office regulations and policies is crucial to your role.
Joining the Business Support Team, also known as the Middle Office, you'll be part of a team of three. This team connects various departments in the bank to address client inquiries effectively. Encouraging self-development and a broad understanding of each department within the bank is central to your function. The team also ensures procedures and working instructions are developed, with necessary training provided to relevant staff.

Working week
On an enjoyable day, smooth operations lead to all clients' cases being resolved, allowing for the mental space to engage in pleasant conversations with colleagues in the canteen.
On a less enjoyable day, numerous complicated customer queries requiring multi-departmental collaboration, or unexpected reporting issues arise, making the day appear quite stressful.
