Since 1859, G. van der Kleij & Zn. Laundry and Linen Rental has been providing linen services for hotels and restaurants throughout the Netherlands. As a family-owned business, we combine craftsmanship with innovation in industrial laundry services for the hospitality industry. With over 200 colleagues, we process 500,000 kg of hospitality linen each week in our modern facility by the Haarrijnseplas in Utrecht, which was opened in 2016.
We bring together years of expertise with state-of-the-art washing lines and drying systems. Every day, we wash, dry, press, and rent out large volumes of sheets, tablecloths, and towels, returning everything to our clients clean and ready for use. Our customers are primarily renowned and often large hotels and restaurants located in the Randstad region.
We supply high-quality linen with a strong focus on service, reliability, and long-term relationships. With dedicated employees and a customer-oriented mindset, we guarantee quality, stability, and partnership every day. Our scale allows us to work quickly and flexibly, while constantly paying attention to sustainable water and energy use.

I was given the opportunity here to start developing myself in the field of HR. From the very beginning, I felt at home thanks to the friendly, family-like atmosphere and the short lines of communication. People easily walk into each other’s offices. Everyone is down-to-earth, hardworking, and has a great sense of humor. Everyone knows each other. I also really appreciate that you can walk straight from the office into the production area and see exactly what you’re working for!
It really feels like home here. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed and appreciated, and over time that sense of belonging has only grown stronger. The atmosphere is warm and supportive, and the relationships I’ve built with my colleagues make it feel more like a community than just a workplace. I was looking for a new challenge compared to my previous job, something that would allow me to grow both professionally and personally. While I appreciated the experience I gained in my last role, I felt it was time to step out of my comfort zone and explore new opportunities where I could develop new skills, take on different responsibilities, and continue to push myself forward.
What appealed to me is that Van der Kleij is a family-owned company with a friendly team. Additionally, I find it special to work in such a large and modern company that is continuously growing and evolving.
I was unemployed and registered with the temp agency Dactylo. On Wednesday afternoon, I received a call from them saying that Van Der Kleij was looking for people, and if I wanted, I could come in for an interview the next day. The interview went well, and on Friday I was able to start working. It went so well that I have now been employed there for over 18 years.
When I moved to the Netherlands, I needed to find a job to get started. My partner suggested I try applying at the laundry, as it was a good opportunity to start working quickly and gain some local experience.
I started working at Van der Kleij because the job offered better working conditions, was less physically demanding than my previous role, and was conveniently located much closer to my home. This made it easier to maintain a good work-life balance and reduced my commuting time significantly.
I was looking for a full HR role within a team, something I hadn’t experienced before. Van der Kleij is a great company to work for, and the atmosphere among colleagues is very good. I appreciate that the production floor, and therefore the people, are easily approachable.

What is our biggest challenge?
The challenge for Van der Kleij lies in preserving our rich family history while continuing to meet the ever increasing demands of the modern hospitality and horeca industry. We want to remain true to our traditional values of reliability, craftsmanship, and personal service while simultaneously investing in the latest washing and drying technologies, sustainable processes, and digital customer solutions. This means we must continuously seek improvements in water and energy consumption, more efficient logistics routes, and smart planning without compromising the quality and flexibility our customers have come to expect from us. Only in this way can we remain the trusted partner for hotels and restaurants for decades to come, delivering top quality products and excellent service.
