You work with a project lead and colleagues on one or more projects, where you are responsible for one or deliverables or workstreams.

Within a project, you will conduct and elaborate interviews, prepare and supervise workshops, analyze client requests, advise and finally work out an advisery report in which you present your team's recommendations. You are connected with the organization's management as well as operational employees and and are able to communicate well with both sides. You can easily connect with people and gain their trust. During the project, you have the ability to zoom out on the situation and clearly indicate what you notice or where you see opportunities for improvement.

On Fridays, we gather at the office to develop both as a team and as individuals. Part of the day is spent working on internal concepts, which means further developing methods that were designed for previous assignments so that they can be used more widely. Furthermore we spend time on client work and on self development, for example by following training courses or attending a lecture.

Firsthand experience

The client informs you that they are not happy with the end report. What do you do?

Start by identifying the client’s main concerns. Review what the client has already shared with you. Is their feedback related to a specific aspect of the project, or does it apply to the final report as a whole? Once you’ve gathered enough context, schedule a meeting with the client.

During the meeting, focus on building a genuine connection, both on a personal and professional level. Explain that you’d like to discuss the final report and are eager to hear their perspective. Ask only open-ended questions and create a comfortable atmosphere where the client feels heard and respected.

The client shares that they’re dissatisfied with the report’s structure. The key takeaways weren’t clear, and the board found it difficult to grasp the main message. Ask what would help improve this. The client responds that a live presentation, delivered by you and a colleague, would clarify the message much more effectively than a written report alone.

Thank the client for their honesty and reassure them that you’ll arrange a meeting with the board. Throughout the process, the most important thing is to step into the client’s shoes and not shy away from addressing issues openly and constructively.
