Vacancy

As a Corporate Credit Analyst Intern at Mizuho Bank Europe, you will support the Credit Analysis team throughout the entire process of providing corporate credit facilities. You will work on assigning credit ratings to customers, which determine the conditions of any potential facility. This involves analyzing annual reports, forecasts, parent support documents, and, more recently, ESG performance. Once a customer has been assigned a credit rating and requests a credit facility, a credit application is initiated. The Relationship Manager discusses the conditions with the client, and once an agreement is reached, the credit application is handed over to your team. You will then take a deeper dive into the customer's financials and forecast.

You will analyze whether everything aligns, if the projections are realistic, and what Mizuho’s profitability will be. Additionally, you will conduct an ESG analysis of the client company, calculating their emissions based on data from Sustainalytics. Initially, you will assist your colleagues with parts of their credit applications, but you will gradually take on more responsibility. There is a steep learning curve, and you will quickly become familiar with the procedures and how to apply your academic knowledge. You must have an eye for detail to ensure all procedures are followed correctly.

You will be working in the Credit Analysis Team, which is a highly international team composed of a Team Lead and ten analysts of various nationalities and levels of seniority. One of the analysts will be assigned as your mentor, who you can approach with any questions and consult regularly. The team has a flat structure, with ample room for questions and discussions. As an intern, you will be involved with all team members, supporting them where needed. The team works closely with the Relationship Managers, who serve as the link between the Credit Analysis Team and the clients.

If you enjoy working with numbers, have an eye for detail, want to work in an international team and find it a challenge to work with tight deadlines, then this is a job for you.

Corporate Credit Analist Intern

On an enjoyable working day all team members are at the office and there is a positive atmosphere. You have a productive team meeting and during lunch you have an interesting conversation with colleagues from a different department.

On a less enjoyable workday, there are important deadlines to meet and the atmosphere in the office is a bit more tense. Although it can be stressful, it's also motivating to see the team pulling together.

Firsthand experience

A credit application lands in your team shortly before a strict internal deadline, but the financial forecast provided by the client seems overly optimistic and lacks sufficient backup. What do you do?

Your task is to immediately flag the inconsistencies in the forecast and request supporting documentation from the Relationship Manager. While waiting for the additional data, you begin stress-testing the figures using historical performance trends and sector benchmarks. You also consult with your mentor to verify the risk assessment approach. By doing so, you ensure that your analysis remains realistic and defensible, while still meeting internal timelines.
