Working week

Field Supervisor
Reinoud Korz

The nicest days are efficient days on which the contractor has completed the job and I can start checking his work. Then, I work in the ‘field’ and I can get a lot of work done.

Less pleasant days occur, for example, when a contractor is running very late for work and I have to hold them accountable for it. This does not happen often, but it feels a little petty.

Firsthand experience

You receive a call from the maintenance department, because the valve of a tank filled with oil is malfunctioning. Your co-worker from the maintenance department asks if you have time to help. You know you should open the valve, but you have not yet gotten permission. However, it is urgent. What to do?

What you should not do in any case is open the valve, because you can never act without permission. What you should do is go back to the office and consult with the safety and operations department on the measures to be taken. There, you ask whether the valve can be opened, and you wait for permission. If you open the valve yourself, the product in the tank could end up in the wrong places. Theoretically speaking, this is impossible, but in this case, the point is that you should never perform operational actions without permission.

Growth

At Vopak, you can grow in all directions; we also look for opportunities beyond your current discipline. It depends on how you develop yourself as well as the opportunities available at that time. This could be a logical growth path.
