Vacancy

As Tax Compliance Officer at TMF Group, you are responsible for the correct and timely VAT declarations and for proper VAT compliance of all organizations affiliated to TMF Group. In addition, you answer tax related questions and you perform a range of administrative tasks.

You work on quarterly and monthly filings, focusing on the VAT returns, ECSL’s and Intrastat declarations. In order to file the tax return, you analyse and process data and invoices customers provide. As you have to check invoices and transactions to make sure they don’t contain any technical errors, it is important for you to have sufficient technical (preparatory) knowledge. In the last week of the VAT declaration month, the workload is at its highest as you must complete all declarations on time in this week.

Between the quarterly VAT filing periods you focus on answering client queries, liaising with the Dutch tax authorities and submitting new VAT registrations. Furthermore, you will be investigating the VAT status of financial and holding companies. During these periods there will also be more client meetings. The team uses a shared mailbox instead of having own client portfolios, therefore the tasks and the clients you will work for will change depending on your availability and experience level.

You are part of the VAT team, which consists of four Tax Compliance Officers in total.

If you enjoy working in a dynamic environment where you have to anticipate changing circumstances then this is the job for you.

Working week

Tax Compliance Officer
Lauma Jakobsone

On an enjoyable day, I prepare a few VAT returns. I also have a lot of customer contact: I help customers with questions about their VAT status and I attend a meeting with a customer

On a less enjoyable day, the workload is high. This is the case especially in the last week of the month when the VAT returns have to be submitted. It is a challenge every month to ensure that this is done correctly and on time.

Firsthand experience

You have to prepare the VAT return for a company. How do you do this?

When preparing a VAT return, you first look at all the datasets you have received from the organisation. These contain useful information, which you enter in the system.

You check all delivered transaction forms. You do this by assessing whether the transactions are logical and checking whether the invoices contain any errors. Since you have to be able to spot any (technical) problems yourself, it is important that you have the required knowledge.
