Working week

Consultant
Andries Penning

I have an enjoyable day when an appointment with a client goes well and together we reach good decisions. Back at the office, I can then immediately process the input from the appointment.

I have a less enjoyable day when I don’t make any progress in my work due to various unexpected meetings, calls and other urgent matters.

Firsthand experience

You have a scope session at a new client for a new project. How do you proceed?

The purpose of a scope session is to obtain a clear picture of the wishes and needs of the client in order to work towards a specific assignment. The result of this meeting is an assignment proposal in which the scope is described (what is being done and what is not?), the planning (when will it be realised), and expected effort (costs).

You prepare by reading the history of your colleagues’ communication, viewing the client’s website and going through LinkedIn profiles of your contact persons. During the meeting, you allow the client’s voice to be heard. You raise questions about the company and the project they are working on. You also investigate their current problems and expectations, and discuss which matters they believe are important to resolve.

A scope session usually lasts two hours during which the client speaks more than 75% of the time. You use the last fifteen minutes to summarize everything, clarify the client’s possible assumptions and discuss the next steps. Depending on the planning, the client receives an assignment proposal within two working days.

Growth

At Relatics, there is no set growth path and there is plenty of freedom to develop. You are encouraged to join training courses and there is no maximum training budget. You are allowed time off to spend freely on personal development.
